Description
The first is circa 1865 by A. Judson. Highly machined cross hatch knurling on reel seat bands and butt cap. Maker's marking on female ferrule: "A. Judson | Rochester, NY". The second is an H.L.Leonard, rattan wrapped grip section on the style of a valise rod, ferruled for butt insertion, above and below the nickel silver reel seat is the May 31,1880 patent for the locking slide band. The reel seat is marked "H.L.Leonard/Makers / W. Mills&Son / Sole Agents" (used circa 1879 -1887) in 4 lines. Both pieces are in excellent original condition. The Judson is in a non-original bag and black anodized (Reddington) aluminum tube without cap, the Leonard has no bag. From the Thomas C. Kerr collection of Historic 19th century fishing rods.
