A FRENCH PATINATED SPELTER WINGED VICTORY FIGURAL AND GRIOTTE MARBLE MANTLE CLOCK, CIRCA 1919, celebrating the French Nation's victory over the Kaiser's Imperial Germany ending World War I, the circular white enameled dial enclosing Arabic black hour and quarter hour numerals centering blued cut steel hour hands above twin key escapements, within a conforming hinged gilt metal and domed glass bezel, trimmed in stylized rocaille and "c" scrolls, before a cylindrical case partitioned by a circular socle with polychrome enameled shell detailed cloisonné banding framing a truncated columnar pedestal, surmounted by the smiling figure of winged victory holding a captured military standard and alighting from an Imperial German pith helmet placed on the breast of a vanquished squawking crowned eagle, edited by E. Mendel, Paris and signed in the metal, on stylized rocky groundwork, raised on a rectangular plinth and scrolling gilt metal paw feet, including one winding key. Height: 26 3/4"
Condition
Good condition, surface buildup in throughout, tip of one wing repaired, paw foot cracked, chip on truncated pedestal backside, small chips on edges of griotte marble.
