Description
Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 23rd Dynasty, 1070 to 740 BCE. A finely carved lid from an anthropoid coffin with a slender face, naturalistic features including arching, articulated eyebrows, tranquil, almond shaped, sfumato eyes, a thin, straight nose, closed, full lips, and a delicate chin emerging from the neck. Traces of gesso and pigmentation. Incredible that original wooden dowels remain as well. Given the delicate nature and scale, may have represented a child or petite woman. Custom stand. Size: 4" W x 9.75" H (10.2 cm x 24.8 cm); 11.25" H (28.58 cm)on stand.
