Description
Yoruba people, African (Nigeria), 20th century. Ornate hand crafted beaded ceremonial sword and sheath (udamalore) with all-over glass beading in geometric and figural patterns with chameleons (symbolic of protective role of ancestors) and figural busts on sheath with three rounded petal or leaf form accents (apete) with similar motif with long beaded strands terminating on coins, back of sheath body with diamond geometric design in red, white, blue and yellow; sword with beaded handle on shaped and pierced sword. Unmarked. Overall approximate length 30.5".
Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia.
