Description
Southeast Asia, Philippines, Ifugao, late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand carved wooden male figure with folded arms resting upon upraised knees. Bululs are abstract representations ancestors that were created to serve as protectors of the rice crop. The Ifugao are known for their great artistry and skill at carving bululs. A wonderful example with lovely blackened patina. Size: 2" W x 5" H (5.1 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: Ex- private collection of Ami Brown. Mr. Brown was the owner of the Coca Cola franchise in Israel and amassed a huge and very fine collection of Indonesian Kris's as well as other ethnographic and tribal arts. His collection numbered more than 3000 pieces with many on display during his life in the Ein Harod Museum of Art.
