This is a handsome antique sterling silver match safe aka vesta case, featuring a wonderful raised sailboat design. As you can see, this is a hinged case; it is marked Sterling and bears a makers mark of "F" in a crest (I wasn't able to identify the maker). The reverse of the case has a script monogram, which looks like ACS. The match safe measures approximately 2 3/8" by 1 5/8" and weighs in at a substantial 34.5 grams. As with most vintage match safes, this one does need polishing and have a number of small dings and dents, which I have attempted to photograph. In the interest of full disclosure, I would also point out that the edge of the lid opposite the hinge has a very minor split, though it is still a smooth surface and does not interfere with closing.

Good condition overall. Various scratches, dings, nicks and wear as with age and use. As pictured.
