ENGLISH INDIAN DESIGN TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC TEAPOT AND TRAY, LOT OF TWO, transfer-printed and painted design having an elephant, buildings, hunting dogs, and figures in polychrome designs on a complex molded teapot and tray. Both having registered shape number 281720 on base and an impressed "M" on base of teapot. Likely Burgess and Leigh, Burslem, Staffordshire, England. Circa 1895. Teapot 6" H, tray 8 7/8" x 5 1/4".
Provenance: Property of The Strong, Rochester, NY, sold to benefit the museum's collections fund.
Catalogue Note: Identical teapot without tray in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, accession number C.277&A-1983.
Very good visual condition with a hairline crack on front side below spout, and small flake on rim of tray.
