Dagobert Peche (1887-1923)
Austrian architect, painter and craftsman Dagobert Peche (1887-1923) is best known for his imaginative designs for the Vienna Workshop. After studying at the Technical University in Vienna, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. He became famous for his wallpaper designs, which he exhibited at the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry (now the MAK) in Vienna in 1913. In 1915, Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956 ) invited him to work in the Vienna Workshop. From then on, Peche’s artistic talent came into its own. His playful shapes inspired all branches of the arts and crafts industry, so that even goldsmithery, ivory carvings, furniture, ceramics, metal products, paper industry and fashion were influenced by his language of shapes.
