Description
USA, New Mexico, ca. 1970s. A pair of figures from Tesuque Pueblo, a pueblo located north of Santa Fe that has been in existence since 1200 CE (Tesuque is a Spanish version of its Tewa name, Te Tesugeh Oweengeh, meaning the “village of the narrow place of the cottonwood trees"). The first is a seated figure with a baby on its neck and a rectangular container on its knees. The other shows a figure seated with hands over eyes and a baby on its lap. Both figures have white faces with painted designs, black hair, and a red-brown design painted on their bodies. Size of largest: 1.9" W x 3.5" H (4.8 cm x 8.9 cm)
