Description
Pakistan, Swat Valley, ca. 19th century CE. A large, heavy, silver necklace that consists of three torques (torcs), hammered to be wider, with twin surfaces bent together in an obtuse angle, that terminate in wide bands of silver that bend and are riveted through simple silver loops. The clasp consists of a flat band of silver attached to either side with three spirals that look like ziggurats rising from it. Incised designs show animals - birds and ungulates - in small scenes divided by parallel thick incised lines. Set in a glass-fronted, blue velvet lined, wooden shadow box frame. Size of necklace: 7.25" W x 8.1" H (18.4 cm x 20.6 cm); size of frame: 1.95" L x 16" W x 16.9" H (5 cm x 40.6 cm x 42.9 cm)
