AN EMBELLISHED AND INSCRIBED PALE CELADON JADE 'FLOCK OF BIRDS' SNUFF BOTTLE
Pale celadon nephrite jade of even color with smooth hand polish. China, The bottle: 1750-1850. The embellishment: TSUDA FAMILY,
KYOTO, JAPAN, 1890-1941

Decorated in relief with lacquer, variegated soapstone and to depict a continuous scene of exotic birds flying around a blossoming tree which emerges from a serrated rock, and a boy waving a small flag. Verso inscription in 10 characters.

Inscription (translated): The flock of birds is singing, for a while happily dancing and enjoying themselves
Shape: Ovoid, bulbous form
Hollowing: Excellent
Mouth, neck and lip: Cylindric neck, flat top, small mouth with almost symmetric inner cylinder
Base: Flat oval shape
Stopper: Coral on stained mother of pearl platelet, spoon
Height of the bottle with stopper: 5.7 cm
Width of the mouth: 4 mm
Width of the neck: 15 mm
Condition: Excellent, with one microscopic chip to lip of neck
