Ming Dynasty Chinese porcelain MeiPing vase, sturdily potted in wide octagonal body, with swelled round shoulder, waisted gracefully down to flat base, with short neck leading to a banded rim and narrow opening. Delicately decorated around the exterior with variegate tones and shades of cobalt blue underglazed of phoenix among floral tendril set within quatre-foil ruyi shaped petal form cartouches. The collar with floral motif within comforting cartouches. Interspersed with dense of scrolling tendrils. The neck and gallery mouth remain white underglazed. The glaze terminated slightly before the foot rim, revealed the rough creme-brownish ground with burnt orange and darker spots in the firing. Initiated conjugated mark between lower and upper body can be seen from uneven surface along the shoulder. The glaze appearance on the blue painting resembled the texture of an orange peel "ju-pi" (chu-p'i) or a chicken skin. A Phoenix is beauty and a yin quality. A pair of phoenix means happiness and is associated with buried treasure.
