Description:
Silver photograph. Signed "Reichling Photo. May 1, 1910" in ink in lower right. 35.4x50.4 cm (14x19¾").
Photograph of Hatchery Building A, built in 1909, at the historic Mount Shasta Hatchery, founded by Justin H. Sisson around 1877, and bought by the California Fish Commission in 1888. It is the oldest trout hatchery west of the Mississippi. Though the hatchery continues to this day, the building pictured is not in active use, and instead houses the Sisson Museum with displays and presentations. There is a caption in the negative, but it seems to have been intentionally blurred before the photograph was printed. The photographer, Oscar H. Reichling, was active in Chico 1893-1912.
