Pinkerton (1848-1907), Managing Director and son of founder Allan Pinkerton, dated Nov & Dec 1887, detailing the complicated but unsuccessful attempt that Robert undertook himself; PLUS "The Pinkerton Story" by James D. Horan & Howard Swiggett, G.P. Putnam's Sons, NY, 1951, inscribed by Robert A. Pinkerton (III) in Nov 1958.
