Correspondence with scholar and author Steven Compton reveals that Davis Brown (of Brown Brothers/Brown Pottery in Arden, North Carolina) built kilns for the Choctaw Indian Pottery Company in Marion, Virginia. The shop was owned by Rufus Outen (who also potted in South Carolina and North Carolina). Davis Brown made pitchers similar to these forms and his work may have influenced the wares made at the pottery shop.
