Description
Eva Zeisel, a rare Wall Pocket in matte yellow glaze, Hyalyn Porcelain, Hickory, NC. The underside with USA Hyalyn and model number 389 incised in the paste. Also signed by Eva Zeisel and dated 2003 in black marker on the back. Porcelain. Length 6 1/8 in. (15.5 cm); height 2 1/2 in. (6.5 cm). 1620-280
Note: This wall pocket is one of several apparently created by Hylayn employees from Zeisel's design molds without her permission. Another example with Zeisel's signature incised in the porcelain paste prior to firing and with a black matte glaze on the front in an American private collection is the basis for this attribution. Zeisel examined this piece in 2003 and acknowledged it as one of her designs; the shape is reminiscent of vessels made for Kispester in 1983 (lot 284 in this sale), the sauce boat bowl in Hallcraft's Tomorrow's Classic line (lot 187 in this sale), and for Manifattura Mancioli (Montelupo, Italy) in 1958.
