This bronze candlestick (“Loewenleuchterâ€) is a copy of a 13th century (c. 1250) candlestick currently housed in the Hildesheim Treasury Cathedral in Germany for over 700 years. It measures approximately 9†tall x 8.5†wide x 8†deep. The original was shown in 2013 and 2014 at the Cloisters in NYC during the MET Exposition: 'Medieval Treasures from Hildesheim'. In 1894, the brass works of Otto Hagemann in Hanover Germany made a limited number of exact replicas that are highly prized by collectors today. This one is identical to the original, with the exception of the size of the iron pricket (itself a modern edition on the original), and the ring on the bottom of the original which also is a modern edition. The quality of this piece speaks for itself. It is a very precise replica, with hand detailing on the legs, so no two are absolutely alike.
