Description
Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A classic blackware guttos form with ribbed rounded body, single loop handle, high spout with flared rim, on a raised concave spooled foot. The tondo is decorated with a low relief image of Minerva, the goddess of wisdom and the arts. A fabulous piece replete with exemplary form, superb iconography, and a surface that has attained gorgeous silvery iridescence. Size: 4" H (10.2 cm).
Provenance: private Carlton collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired between 1965 and 1980
