Description
Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A classic blackware guttos form with ribbed rounded body, single loop handle, high spout with flared rim, on a raised concave spooled foot. The tondo is decorated with a low relief image of winged Eros before seated Aphrodite. A fabulous example replete with exemplary form, superb iconography, and a surface that has attained gorgeous iridescence. Size: 4.375" W at widest point x 3.5" H (11.1 cm x 8.9 cm)
Provenance: private Carlton collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired between 1965 and 1980
