Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. A finely made blackware canteen vessel depicting a human face on one side of the flared cylindrical spout. The vessel has an angular base with an ovoid body which displays two "X" patterns with segregated sections of low relief dotted designs and unadorned sections. Twin applied ring handles sit aside on each side of the narrow neck, and the entire vessel has a finely-burnished surface. Size: 8.5" H (21.6 cm).
