6 partly-printed 4to to folio size war-date commissions and other documents following Isaac P. Lockman's career in the New York State Militia from 1861 to 1866 accompanied by a C.D.V. of Lockman in uniform. Comprises: 1.) N.Y.S. Militia commission dated May 27th, 1861 promoting Lockwood to "Sergeant of H Company, Ninth Regiment, Third Brigade, and First Division of the Militia of the State of New York..." 2.) "Private's Certificate" annotated as a Sergeant's certificate, dated May 24th, 1861 recognizing Lockman as "...a Sergeant in...Company...designated as 'H'..., in the Ninth Regiment of New York State Militia..." 3.) Vellum commission dated May 25th, 1864 promoting Lockman to "...Major in the 119th Regiment of Infantry New York State Volunteers..." from March 9th 1864." 4.) Vellum commission dated July 21, 1864 promoting Lockman to "...Lieutenant Colonel in the 119th Regiment of Infantry New York State Volunteers..."from May 15th 1864." 5.) Lockman's discharge paper dated June 7th, 1865 "...near Bladensburg..." Countersigned by "John T. Lockman" as "Col. 119 (th) Reg." 6.) Vellum document dated May 18th, 1866 promoting Lockman from Lieut. Colonel to Brevet Colonel for gallant and meritorious service. With Lockwood's 1860 certificate issued by NYFD permitting him to wear badge No. 9 and continue his work with Hose Company No. 40 (one embossed NYFD "40" clothing button present). Accompanied by an 1857 partly-printed duplicate note certifying Lockman as an "Exempt Fireman."
