Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 12th to 15th century CE. A tall blackware effigy vessel depicting a male figure, possibly a lord, his tall headdress also serving as the spout, his face delineated on the neck of the piece - with bold features such as coffee bean shaped eyes, a protruding nose, and closed lips, holding a camelid over his shoulders, grasping the limbs with each hand, the body of the vessel doubling as the body of this gentleman with an incised repeated diamond pattern running down his chest, an impressed navel, and legs with upraised knees in relief at the lower end of the vessel. Size: 6.5" W x 10.5" H (16.5 cm x 26.7 cm)

Condition
Chips to the rim. One ear of llama missing. Slight depression on the front side was most likely intended to represent the figure's navel. Nice burnishing marks. Some sediment remains within making it fairly heavy. Old collection labels on base.
