Description
Ancient Near East, modern day northern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. An aesthetically beautiful lost wax cast bronze axe and adze head with an asymmetrical design and a mottled blue-green aged patina. The socket is studded with three raised rings around its surface. A weapon like this one was made to be placed into a grave - probably a mounded tomb, or perhaps one cut into rock in the side of a cliff - to demonstrate the prestige and wealth of the deceased. Size: 5.95" W x 1.9" H (15.1 cm x 4.8 cm)
