Description
Western Europe, France, Late Medieval period, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A huge carved marble mortar with a flat base, a gradually-widening conical body, four rounded integral handles/lugs equidistantly spaced around the perimeter, and a deep grinding cavity. The exterior of the body displays a white-beige hue, and the interior has a deep-green coloration likely from creating large amounts of verdant pigment. A sizeable example from Medieval Europe! Size: 10" W x 5" H (25.4 cm x 12.7 cm).
