Item Details
Description
Native American, US Southwest, Arizona, Hohokam, ca. 900 to 1100 CE. A fine example of a Sacaton Red-on-Buff bowl with steep sides and a wide, flaring rim. The exterior is left buff, while the interior has dramatic, earthy red lines, swirls, and zigzags. This bowl is from the Hohokam Sedentary period, when the people of this culture created larger and more complex structures and irrigation canals. As their population expanded, so did their agriculture; a fine bowl like this one was probably used in the preparation of food. Size: 7.25" W x 3.5" H (18.4 cm x 8.9 cm)
