Description
Heading:
Author: Gillett, James B. and Howard R. Driggs
Title: The Texas Ranger: A Story of the Southwestern Frontier
Author: Gillett, James B. and Howard R. Driggs
Place: Yonkers-on-Hudson, NY
Publisher: World Book Company
Date: 1927
Description: 8vo. xiii, 218pp. + [8]pp. ads. Pictorial cloth. Herbert W. Stoops, illustrator. Inscribed by Gillett. Inscribed by Gillett in the year of publication "To Bro John H. Burma with compliments of the author, J.B. Gillett." Burma is almost certainly the then President of Trinity University (now in San Antonio, then in Waxahachie, TX). The "Bro" likely refers to membership in the Masonic Order (not sure about Burma, but Gillett was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason). This work has substantial overlap with, and appeared six years after Gillett's very highly regarded, classic work, Six Years With the Texas Rangers, 1875-1881. Gillett inscriptions are very scarce. Donated by Carpe Diem Fine Books, Monterey, CA. Donated by Charles A. Goldsmid, Claremont, CA.
Condition: Some crinkling to half the text block, but no adhesions or other damage. Extremities worn (no tears). Spine lettering somewhat faded (yet easily legible). Item number: 244069
