A REPUBLIC OF TEXAS MANUSCRIPT, TEXIAN VOLUNTEER GEORGE BERNARD ERATH DISCHARGED FOR SERVICE BY GEORGE WASHINGTON BARNETT, ACKNOWLEDGED BY JOHN HENRY MOORE, SIGNED, SEPTEMBER 15, 1839, hand inscribed ink on paper fragment, Capt. Commandant George Washington Barrett signs that George Areth, surveyor and and Texas Republic volunteer soldier, "joined by Company as a private in the Ranging Service and The Frontier on the 27th July Eighteen hundred thirty five and served till the 28th of August ensuing and is here by honorably discharged, given under my hand this 15th Sept, 1839, and in the lower left in his own pen, John Henry Moore, Capt. Commandant also writes, "This is to certify that G.W. Barnetts Company of Volunteers were attached to my command one month or thereabouts, in the summer of 1835 against the hostile Indians," verso addressed. 4 3/8" x 7 2/8" Provenance: Estate of Dr. Paul E. Shutts, Houston, Texas.
Condition
Some yellowing amd stains, fading of ink, torn paper fragment, minor handling and creases, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
