AN AMERICAN FEDERAL SATINWOOD INLAID MAHOGANY SECRETARY BOOKCASE, CIRCA 1800 AND LATER, in two sections, the top with a dentil cornice over a pair of glazed mullioned ogival arched doors with inlaid satinwood shield form escutcheons, the interior fitted with two adjustable shelves, the bottom featuring a front hinged fold out "lap" form desk with sloping tooled green leather writing surface with stamped gilt border, the interior of the back portion with three drawers (one fitted with divisions) over five open cubby hole spaces, over one long drawer fitted with stamped brass pulls with conch shell decoration and lock, the top and front outlined with satinwood stringing and inlaid shield form keyhole escutcheons in the center, raised on tapering spade form legs with satinwood stringing, height: 72 5/8", width: 29 3/4", depth: 19 3/8"; depth when open: 29".

The upper glazed section of later date and married the lower desk section, with overall surface rubbing and wear commensurate with age and use, leather writing surface not original and with rubbing to gilt border, small tear to leather, brass pulls later replacements, with hole for original pulls, the lock a later replacement.
