Description
Pre-Columbian, Chancay, modern day Peru, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. An absolutely charming ceramic figure, made from a coarse redware, originally fully painted with a smooth, beige color and with white and black painted details of face and ornament, much of that worn off through natural processes during deposition. The figure has two projecting horns, perhaps indicating that he is a shaman. He also has small male genitalia and is painted to have a thin belt. Size: 6.15" W x 9" H (15.6 cm x 22.9 cm)

Condition
Tip of one hand is an ancient loss; otherwise in good condition. The item seems to have been deposited so that one side was exposed to a lot more weathering than the other, as one side is rough, without pigment remaining, while the other is in very nice condition with most pigment remaining.
