Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A textile made from loose and tightly-woven strands of cotton and camelid fibers, in hues of umber, orange, cream, and violet, decorated with a repeating pattern of abstract avian creatures. The designs surrounding the birds are of abstruse geometric motifs ranging from quadrilaterals to rhombuses and jagged zig-zagging lines. Mounted on a custom cardboard backing. Size: 12" W x 10.75" H (30.5 cm x 27.3 cm); Size of cardboard backing: 11" W x 14" H (27.9 cm x 35.6 cm).
