Description
This is a beautifully decorated Lladró glazed figure of Miguel Cervantes’ literary character Don Quixote. The fantasy-chasing Lord of La Mancha was depicted by artist Salvador Furió wearing a battered helmet and holding a sword in one hand and a cape in the other. His second-hand conquistador’s breast plate lays at his feet, along with a stack of the chivalric romances he famously read that drove him mad, causing him to chase after windmills. The bearded Don Quixote stands next to a green shrub, and wears tan leggings, a white poet’s shirt and grey, buckled shoes, along with the pumpkin pants that were prevalent in 16th century male costumes. The entire model is painted in a soft palette of earth tones, as well as light grey and white. Marked Lladró Hand made in Spain and other potters marks. =; Size: 11.75"H; Issued: 1973
