Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A man's head, probably once part of a high relief image on the side of a tomb or stela, as it is only carved on the face and sides and has a smooth, undecorated back. The head is bearded, with wild, curling hair and a carefully depicted mustache around a small mouth. The eyes are large and expressive, the nose flat and wide. This item was likely once brightly painted. Size: 2.4" W x 3.1" H (6.1 cm x 7.9 cm)
