Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A mold-made terracotta vessel with a flat bottom, rounded shoulders with six tab-shaped nodules, a pierced ring handle, a protruding wick spout, and a recessed tondo with a narrow fill hole. The tondo features three raised actors' masks which flank the top and both sides of the fill hole, and display characteristic features such as stylized hair, gaping mouths, and an aggressive expression. Roman actors' masks were designed to amplify the actor's voice and also to allow actors to portray many different characters quickly. Lucite display stand not included. Size: 3.75" L x 2.625" W x 1.5" H (9.5 cm x 6.7 cm x 3.8 cm).
