AN ICON OF KAZANSKAYA/THE MOTHER OF GOD, CIRCA 1900, WITH CHASED PARCEL GILT OKLAD AND CANOPY ICON LAMP, PROBABLY WARSAW, POLAND AND RUSSIA, ROMAN PLEWKIEWICZ & CO., oil on panel, the Virgin holds baby Jesus as he gestures in blessing; the oklad etched in Cyrillic in the foreground identifying Kazanskaya, the whole within a shadow box style frame fitted with a wrought iron hook and joined with a suspending brass votive holder of bell form with a pierced Coptic cross rim, each cross hammered with florets and fleur-de-lis details, and stamped in Cyrillic "PLEWKIEWICZ" and an "M," issuing three scrolled arms joining chain supports to a stepped circular domed canopy, all centering a cranberry glass candle cup. Height: 8 5/8" Width: 7" Depth: 3/4"

Some scratches to the surface varnish, some craquelure to the paint throughout, and mild darkened areas with some losses to the gilt finish on the oklad with mild consistency, overall in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
