Description
A Russian porcelain cup and saucer from the Coronation Service of Alexander III, Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, 1893 and 1895. Â The front of the cup and cavetto of the saucer decorated with the Imperial State Seal, a thrice crowned double-headed Imperial eagle, the shield of St. George encircled by the Chain of St. Andrew on its chest, the wings emblazoned with the arms of the major kingdoms and principates making up the empire, including (clockwise) Astrakhan, Siberia, Georgia, Finland, Kiev-Vladimir-Novgorod, Taurica, Poland, and Kazan, and with scepter and orb clutched in its talons. The underside of the cup with the green underglaze cypher mark of Nicholas II dated 1895, the underside of the saucer with the green underglaze cypher mark of Alexander III dated 1893. Height of cup: 2 1/2in. (6.3 cm). Diameter of saucer: 5 5/8in. (14.3 cm).
