Description
Brigadier General epaulettes. Fine quality gold bullion, with a high relief twisted gold wire border, and an applied high relief silver bullion embroidered six-point star. "Polished" gold crescent and 3 1/2" gold spring wire fringe. Red silk and leather backing – with original "shoestring" ties. The left epaulette has a rare gold Civil War Diplomatic Corps button. With original tin carrying/storage case. Plum velvet lining. Center oval container has eight silver bullion officer boards – type for shoulder boards and an aged pair of white gloves. Maker's metal shield on top of carrying case – "JOSEPH STARKEY & CO…LONDON". Externally case shows wear, but contents would rate in excellent condition.
