Description
Origin: Rome, 1st-2nd century A.D.
Height 12,2 cm.
A terracotta theater mask made from mold with beautiful color remains. The female face is framed by an elaborate corkscrew hairstyle. The mouth is wide open, closed by the tounge. Nose, chin, lips and eye brows are in high relief, the eyes are round and wide open, framed by eyelids, the pupils notched. On top a hole for suspension. The back is trenched and show fingerprints of the artist.
Condition report: A short stress crack on the neck, otherwise intact with numerous color remains. With TL test!
Provenance: Collection Schulz, Saarbrücken, acquired beginning of the 20th century. Thence Galerie Antiken-Kabinett Gackstätter, Frankfurt. With certificate of Galerie Antiken-Kabinett Gackstätter, inventory number 4514.
