Details: This lot is comprised of approximately 62 issues of “Harper’s Weekly, A Journal of Civilization†covering some years between1869 and 1885. Issues have beautiful illustrations or photographs on the cover pages including photographs of the phases of a solar eclipse taken August 7, 1869 is shown on the August 28th, 1869 cover page.
Issues sizes are approx. 16.75" x 11.75".
“Harper's Weekly, A Journal of Civilization" was an American political magazine based in New York City. Published by Harper & Brothers from 1857 until 1916, it featured foreign and domestic news, fiction, essays on many subjects, and humor, alongside illustrations. It carried extensive coverage of the American Civil War, including many illustrations of events from the war. During its most influential period, it was the forum of the political cartoonist Thomas Nast.
Condition / Notes: This collection of antique newspapers shows very well with some indications of age/wear, including age toning and chipping. It is unknown if each individual issue is complete or if there is a complete yearly set.
