Description

Ovando James "Vando" Hollister (1834-1892) was an author, historian, Civil War soldier, newspaper editor, publicist, civic leader, and brother-in-law to Schuyler Colfax (Vice President under U.S. Grant). This album contains photographs and copies of pictures from Colorado in the 1860s where Vando lived and worked in publishing for the mining industry. Photographs are mainly portraits and many bear pencil notations indicating who is pictured. The album itself has wonderful closures depicting President Lincoln in profile.
