Description
William Butler Yeats (13 June 1865 - 28 January 1939) Irish poet and one of the influential figures of 20th-century literature.
This signed, limited edition was published in 1922, the year Yeats received an honorary degree from Trinity College, Dublin and was elected to the Irish Senate, where he served for six years. In December 1923, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. This is copy #607 of the first printing, by T. Werner Laurie, Ltd. (London), limited to 1000 copies, of William Butler Yeats autobiographical work, "The Trembling of the Veil" (247 pages), signed by the poet on the limitation page.
This copy is very good internally, but it has a stain, with surface lifting, to the cover’s bottom borders, front and back. This is visible, though less so, to the inside covers, and much less so, to the first leaves.
The cover (app. 6" x 9") is otherwise in good condition, with no other stains, no looseness at the hinges. The vellum spine is straight. The attached author/title label is in excellent condition. Several pages have small stains - either light spotting to the top borders or larger brown stains to the outside borders. Most pages have neither.
The text is in uniformly fine condition, with no stains or fade. The Claude Shannon frontispiece portrait of Yeats, and its accompanying tissue guard, are in fine condition. The binding is tight throughout, with no loose or missing pages. There are no page tears or creases.
The accompanying photos are of this copy.
