This rare and unusual early auto road atlas was published during the time the National Highway System was being developed. It includes individual “auto-trails” maps for each state, plus a complete series of separate commercial state maps, a double-page United States map, Federal Reserve banking districts map and an index locating cities, towns and villages. Also included is a wonderful full-color plate, “Highway Pole Markers” which depicts 49 road signs of these early highways. “Auto Trails and Commercial Survey of the United States” pub. c1921 by National Map Co. Limp brown pebbled cloth covers. Front cover with large chips at top, worn corners, tiny tear at bottom and inch-and-a-half chipping at foot and head of spine. Rear cover shows worn corners. West Virginia map has 5” tear and there are a few tiny edge tears, but the interior is mostly very good plus. 11.7 x 15. 144 pages.
