English edition of the primary work of Guillaume-Joseph Grelot, following the 1680 French edition. The work notable for the engraved views from drawings by the author, and for the architectural treatment of such landmarks as the Sancta Sophia. This copy lacking Figure X, a folding plate showing the "several postures used by the Turkes during Prayer." One plate the prospect of the Hellespont, has been hand-colored, another with a spot of hand coloring; the frontispiece portrait has some black ink outlining in a few places, which has partially offset to the title page. Ownership signature of John Lees, dated 1843, to front free endpaper, and to the top margin of the To the Reader page.
