Description
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A wonderful wheel-thrown pottery krater of a miniature size with salmon-hued registers of chevrons and undulating tendrils over rich, lustrous black glaze. The vessel is defined by a squat ringed foot, a tall body with a flared rim, and a pair of applied strap handles. Faint areas of silvery iridescence are scattered across the black-glazed areas. Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery, and the style is distinguished by added red decoration over black glaze. Size: 3.625" W x 2.25" H (9.2 cm x 5.7 cm).
