John Penn Philadelphia Land Indenture Document
(JOHN PENN) (1729-1795). Governor of Pennsylvania, son of Richard Penn, Sr. and grandson of William Penn, the Last Colonial Governor of Pennsylvania, who's 25% interest in the Colony was lost due to the American Revolution.
January 7, 1793-Dated Federal Period, Rare Form Partly-Printed Vellum Document, Attorney Anthony Butler beingSigned for his clients "John Penn the Younger" and "John Penn the Elder", 1 page, measuring 15.5" x 12.25", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Choice Very Fine. This clean Vellum Land Document has normal folds, has well printed text in black on Vellum. Being an Indenture between the two John Penns and Peter Shnyder buying Penn's land in nearby Easton. It reads, in part, "... of the Sum of Thirty seven Pounds ten Shillings current Money of Pennsylvania... confirm unto the said Peter Shnyder and to his Heirs and Assigns Five Certain Contiguous Lots of Ground situate in the town of Easton aforesaid marked in the General Plan of the Said Town...". The Document has four vivid full red wax Seals still affixed at lower portion next the attorney's signatures for their absentee clients John Penn the younger and John Penn the Elder at lower right. Docket on reverse along with the official embossed Paper and wax Seal of John Arndt, Recorder. A most unusual Land Document from the extended Penn family of original Proprietors, now represented in Pennsylvania through their legal representatives.
