He was honored with the award on December 12, 1894.

Book Details: This is the complete six-volume third edition of this work, in five volumes plus the additional index volume. This antique set is bound in blue pebbled-cloth covers with stamped gilt lettering on the spines. The volumes contain tissue-guarded color frontispieces depicting scenes from the US Civil War, and author/veteran Phisterer in the first volume. There are additional tissue-guarded color plates and maps illustrating these volumes, as well as in-text tables.

Condition / Notes: These antique volumes show well with some typical indications of age and wear, including mild shelfwear. There is evidence of moisture on the covers and parts of the text blocks.
