John Gault Designed 1864 Radical Republican Ticket

Fremont-Cochrane Presidential Campaign Ferrotype Rarity
1864 "J.C. FREMONT-JOHN COCHRANE" Presidential Campaign Ferrotype Photograph, with (1862 Civil War Encased Postage Stamp Maker) John Gault's Ornately Designed Patriotic Brass Frame, JF-1864-7. Choice Extremely Fine.
25mm. Rare John Fremont, the famed "Pathfinder" who represented the Radical/Liberal wing of the Republican Party which split with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential supporters in 1864. This historic 1864 Presidential Campaign Ferrotype is bright and sharp in detail with strong central Tintype Portraits of candidates John Fremont for President and running mate John Cochrane for Vice President, housed in a distinctively designed by John Gault Gilt Brass frame. It is ornately designed with Heraldic Shields and Laurels, and holed at the top for suspension as always. The unique style John Gault designed frame is based on the similar concept to the more plain appearing brass frames used for Gault's 1862 made Civil War Encased Postage Stamps, and they are collected in both fields of collecting. This more ornate Political Campaign design type is highly favored by both fields of collectors since a complete matched set is limited to just the three 1864 Presidential Candidates, who include: Abraham Lincoln, George McClellan, and John C. Fremont. There is some typical irregularities and in the Tintype surface emulsion on both sides. The lower reverse side rim portion reads, "Pat AUG. 12, 1862." being Gault's overall design Patent date, seen in tiny letters. The Fremont Photograph Tintype portrait appears very nice and near perfect, making this an appealing, highly collectible specimen.
