Description
A Roman ceramic oil lamp with a nice female portrait, mid-3rd Century AD, the bust of the women is draped, wearing jewelry, her hair stylized back into a looped plait at the nape of her neck. The discus is set-off by a ridge which extends and borders the nozzle and an ovolo pattern on the shoulder. The ring handle with vertical grooves and low ring base on bottom. 4 1/8 x 3 1/4 in (10.5 x 8.3 cm). Remnants of orange-brown slip and moderate surface deposits. Ex Southern California private collection.
