Description
A large early 18th Dynasty Egyptian steatite scarab, c. 1570 - 1425, the body and legs nicely carved, on base a pair of baboons in attitude of adoration to either side of ten groups concentric circles which seem to have been drilled over the tree which is usually depicted in this scene. Fill signs or marks resembling fronds in fields, but a most interesting scarab. 38 x 26 mm. No remaining glaze, light surface deposits and drilled lengthwise for suspension. Ex collection of Gustave Mustaki, Alexandria, acquired in the mid-1900's.
