"The earliest comprehensive tratise on comparative anatomy is the Zootomia Democritaea of Severino ... a rare, highly curious and original work now under consideration, of which only one edition appeared ... Human and comparative anatomy are distinguished by Severino as Andranatomy and Zootomy. In a long general section, which embraces also the anatomy of plants, he recognizes the unity of the vertebrate animals, including man, and regards divergences from the type as due to disturbances of function ... In comparing the structure of the ape and man Severino considers that their affinity is so patent that the ape should be exploited for medical purposes ... As an anatomist, however, he prefers the pig as a substitute for man ... Severino´s most ambitious and difficult dissection continue and extend the work of Aristotle on the Cephalopoda, the types being Loligo, Sepia and Octopus. His figures, which are unaccompanied by any descriptions, are the first representations of the anatomy of these animals ... The Zootomia is completed by a section on methods. He contends that the older methods employed in the examination of bodies are inappropriate and useless. He demands first of all a strong natural inclination for the work [...]. In this section of his work Severino dicusses the employment of assistants, the instruments required, including one invented in our lifetime called microscopium ..." (Cole). Die schönen Portraitstiche zeigen den Verfasser und dessen Lehrer Giulio Iasolono (1537/8-1622). Unter den zahlreichen Widmungsgedichten ein lateinisches von G. P. Harsdörffer (nicht bei Dünnhaupt).

Titelvignette und einem ganzseitigen gestochenen Portrait des Verfassers. Hamburg, Sumptibus Autoris, Typis Jacobi Rebenlini, 1647. - Hirsch-Hübotter III, 627; Krivatsy 7110: "No more appears to have been published. Includes Latin text of selected aphorisms, translated by Adolph Vorstius"; nicht im VD 17. Laurentius (1594-1673) wurde 1647 oder 48 Leibarzt der Prinzessin Magdalene Sibylle in Nykjoebing, begleitete sie nach Meissen als sie dorthin heiratete, kehrte dann aber wieder nach Dänemark zurück, wo er Leibarzt des Königs wurde.
III. Georg Friedrich Laurentius. Protestatio et appellatio adversus Anonymi Pasquillantis insanias. 19 S. O. O. u. Dr., 1647. - Nicht im VD 17. Wohl eine im Zusammenhang mit seinem erbitterten Streit mit Bernhard Langwedel stehende Schrift.

Der Verfasser war Anton Brun oder Isaak Volmar. - Die Titelblätter teils etwas fleckig. Fliegender Vorsatz und die ersten Bl. mit münzgroßem Braunfleck, teils schwache Feuchtigkeitsspur in den Rändern, der Titel verso gestempelt. Ohne das Frontispiz. Im Ganzen sehr schön.
