Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A free-blown translucent glass drinking cup of a pale aqua color with a wide, flat base and a smooth pontil scar, an inward-tapering body profile, and a very slightly flared rim which is ground smooth. A pair of thin wheel-cut bands adorn the upper body. This example has gorgeous silvery and rainbow iridescence, especially in the lower part of the body. Size: 2.3" W x 1.75" H (5.8 cm x 4.4 cm)

Condition
Intact, with a few tiny chips and nicks commensurate with age. Pontil scar is worn away. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Nice silvery and rainbow iridescence, especially on the lower part of the body.
